The mausoleum is unquestionably one of the essential places to visit in <a href=\"https:\/\/viajarvietnam.com\/en\/hanoi\/\">Hanoi<\/a> \u2014 so if you&#8217;re planning a trip to Vietnam&#8217;s capital, don&#8217;t forget to add it to your list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ho Chi Minh was the leader of the Viet Minh and <strong>headed Vietnam&#8217;s fight for independence<\/strong> from the foreign powers that had colonized it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vietnam was under French occupation from 1859 (a conquest in which Spain, incidentally, played a considerable part) until 1954, when the First Indochina War ended \u2014 followed almost immediately by the Vietnam War against the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"a_brief_history_of_the_ho_chi_minh_mausoleum\"><\/span>A brief history of the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before dying, &#8220;Uncle Ho&#8221;, as he&#8217;s known in Vietnam, expressed his wish that his <strong>remains be scattered across the country&#8217;s three regions<\/strong> \u2014 north, center and south. You&#8217;ll be asked to keep <strong>absolute silence<\/strong>, and you&#8217;ll pass through quickly without lingering \u2014 <strong>stopping isn&#8217;t allowed<\/strong> inside, where you can see <strong>Ho Chi Minh&#8217;s body surrounded by soldiers<\/strong> standing guard 24 hours a day, in an <strong>atmosphere that&#8217;s cold and rather awe-inducing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"how_to_visit_the_ho_chi_minh_mausoleum\"><\/span>How to visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It sits in central Hanoi, very close to the One Pillar Pagoda and the Presidential Palace, so a good plan is to combine all three in one visit and make the most of your time in the capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Remember that the veneration of Ho Chi Minh is a serious matter for the Vietnamese government, so <strong>temple-appropriate dress is required \u2014 no shorts, short skirts or sleeveless shirts.<\/strong> Security is tight, with checkpoints where you&#8217;ll have to check in all your personal items, including your camera if you&#8217;re carrying one.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Photos are not allowed inside.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inside, Ho Chi Minh&#8217;s body is preserved in perfect condition, guarded by four officers, and <strong>the atmosphere is genuinely arresting.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>To avoid the lines, we recommend arriving first thing in the morning<\/strong> \u2014 it&#8217;s one of the most visited places in Hanoi.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ho_chi_minh_mausoleum_prices_and_hours\"><\/span>Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum: prices and hours<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The interior of the mausoleum, where the body rests, can be visited Tuesday to Sunday <strong>from 7:30 to 11:00 am.<\/strong> Closed Mondays.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>rest of the complex is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm<\/strong>.
