So were we.
That’s why we took advantage of the world shutting down in 2020 to create Viajar por Vietnam.
This is not just another travel blog, nor a pile of articles churned out by artificial intelligence.
Behind every tip on where to eat the best Banh Mi, there’s us: real people who’ve caked their boots in Sapa mud and get lost in Saigon traffic on a daily basis.
Viajar por Vietnam was born without any grand plan behind it. This blog isn’t here to sell you a perfect Vietnam or one ideal route for everyone — it grew out of real experience and the urge to share useful information with people planning their own trip through Vietnam.
Here we talk about what actually works when you travel the country, what’s worth knowing before you arrive, and those little things nobody tells you that make all the difference once you’re there.
On Viajar por Vietnam you’ll find practical information to organize your trip, realistic routes, advice based on first-hand experience and genuine local recommendations.

Diego, Vietnam as a second home
Traveling is a constant in my life, with a particular soft spot for Asia. Over the years I’ve covered a good part of the Asian continent and vast stretches of the Americas too.
I first arrived in Vietnam in 2019, right after getting over dengue fever in Cambodia. Not exactly the best setting for falling in love with a country and, predictably, Vietnam didn’t do much for me. I stayed three days and left convinced the place had little to offer.
A few months later I decided to come back and give the country a second chance, on pure intuition. It turned out to be one of the best travel decisions I’ve ever made — proof that first impressions sometimes deserve a healthy dose of distrust.
Since then I’ve returned every year, to the point where Vietnam is now one of my main places of residence. I spend a good part of the year based in Ho Chi Minh City, using it as my launchpad to keep exploring the country from the inside — at a calmer pace and with considerably less fever.
Beyond traveling on my own, my passion for sharing my trips with others also has me designing and leading trips across Vietnam and many other countries.
Ngan, the local eye on Vietnam
Ngan is Vietnamese, and her accent leaves no doubt about where she’s from: Hanoi. By day she works in banking, and in her free time she swaps numbers for travel — as long as there’s something good to eat involved.
A self-declared food lover, her greatest hobby is hunting down the best dishes in Vietnamese cuisine and, above all, the best places to try them. Street stall or hidden spot that doesn’t show up on Google — it doesn’t matter, as long as the food is good, it counts.
Her Spanish amounts to about two sentences, but luckily the language of food is fairly universal. And in that one, Ngan is completely fluent.
From her I pick up Vietnamese in small doses, new places, and local customs by forced immersion — all of which you’ll see reflected throughout this blog.

Given the volume of messages we receive, we can’t answer generic questions like “what will the weather be like in August?” or “is Sapa better than Halong?”.
For those, use the menu — it doesn’t bite, and it usually has the answer already published.
When should you write to us?
- Error reports: Although we live in Vietnam and try to keep everything up to date, with this many articles it’s not always possible. If you’ve been in Vietnam recently and noticed a price has changed, a restaurant no longer exists or an opening time doesn’t match, write to us.
- Professional inquiries: Advertising, press or collaborations.
- Technical problems: If something won’t load, a link doesn’t work or the site is acting up, let us know before we notice it ourselves.
